Synthetic mica tape is built on high-purity synthetic mica paper, reinforced on one or both sides with alkali-free glass fibre cloth or polymer film (PE), bonded with silicone resin, then high-temperature baked, dried and slit to finished rolls. It is wrapped between the conductor core and the outer sheath of fire-resistant cables, holding the circuit live while the fire is still burning.
Because the mica paper is synthesised rather than mined, the R-5461-S series runs with no natural mineral impurities and reaches a 950–1000 ℃ fire window — the highest in the R-5461 family. It is the grade specified for tunnels, offshore platforms, aerospace and other projects where a longer survival time under fire is written into the cable specification.
No breakdown for 90 minutes at 950–1000 ℃ and 600–1000 V, meeting BS 6387 and IEC 60331.
Synthesised mica paper delivers a consistent dielectric layer — mica content runs >55% to >70% across the thickness range.
GS (glass single side), GD (glass both sides), GFD (glass plus film) — one family for every cable line.
Single-sided alkali-free glass cloth on synthetic mica paper. The widest thickness range in the family — 0.09 mm to 0.15 mm — and the most widely ordered synthetic grade. Best where thin-wall wrapping is needed and the fire spec demands the 950–1000 ℃ window.

Glass fibre cloth and PE film on each side of the synthetic mica paper. Combines the mechanical strength of glass with the very high dielectric strength of the polymer film — breakdown voltage >3.5 kV at both 0.12 mm and 0.14 mm. Chosen where the cable design needs the highest wall strength within a thin cross-section.

Synthetic mica paper is manufactured rather than mined, so it carries no natural mineral impurities and reaches a 950–1000 ℃ fire window for the full 90-minute test — the highest rating in the R-5461 family. Choose synthetic when the cable specification demands the longest survival time under fire, and see Phlogopite Mica Tape or Calcined Mica Tape when the fire window is shorter and cost is the deciding factor.
GS (glass single side) is the widest-applied grade with 0.09–0.15 mm thickness range and the highest tensile strength. GD (glass both sides) covers 0.14–0.16 mm heavy-duty wraps. GFD (glass plus film) delivers the highest dielectric strength of the family at >3.5 kV and is chosen for thin-wall cable designs that need maximum wall strength.
Thickness depends on grade: 0.09–0.15 mm for GS, 0.14–0.16 mm for GD, 0.12–0.14 mm for GFD. Slitting width runs from 4.5 mm to 1000 mm. Standard roll lengths are 500 m, 1000 m and 2000 m on 52 mm, 54 mm, 76 mm or 120 mm cores. Custom widths and core sizes are produced to drawing.
BS 6387 at 950–1000 ℃ and IEC 60331. The R-5461-S tape does not break down for 90 minutes at 950–1000 ℃ and 600–1000 V, matching the requirement most often written into fire-resistant cable specifications for high-risk installations.
Tell us your grade (GS / GD / GFD), thickness, width, roll length and target fire standard. Kaxite will confirm the R-5461-S specification, lead time and price for your cable line.
